Tragedy
Album • 2012
Birthed into a fiery inferno Faceless children inherit this hell The modern currency: bomb shrapnel And ammunition shells scattered in The barren dearth and scarred hills Where piles of human bones Rise up from the arid earth Like roots + litter the ground With skulls + hardened flesh The ravaged empty plot With dismembered limbs and human ash There are no gravestones here There are no cemeteries here There are no headstones here To honour fallen ones This site is desolate The sight more desolate still Scorched in summer by infernal heat Swept in winter by bitter cold Remnants of an unvanquished war Remnants of a savage war

Choices are made, their bidding is done Capitulation willing, tranquility consumed And so here we are to confront yet again Our willingness to accept The fate they are prepared to give Pills administered as the i.v. drips The shots are given but the pain subsists Black hole approaching, cold darkness takes hold Take one last breath as the final curtains close Imminent impendent doom Close at hand

Like prisoners in the perfect jail The workers needn't be watched Because they watch themselves Not only those who give the orders But those who command what orders to give We are guard and guarded at once Status, position, competition, reward We are guard and guarded at once Misdirection, deception, illusion, control Teetering just on the edge, the edge of the abyss The meaningless nothing, the grim infinite We are guard + guarded at once

Victims shrieking execrations Thousands dead from heat prostration Frightened by the beast on the other side A mirrored nightmare poisoning blight Remedies from the speeches of fools Who gave us bandages to cure our disease There will be no morals Only each other left to eat No one prays to the skies anymore A cloud of ashen sickness An unbreathable thickness There will be no slumber when Closing our eyes means certain death The starvation marches have started The scythe is being swung Without aim or abandon But we will carry on The starvation marches have started The bell will soon be rung Marking the feeding hour But we must carry on

The wail of sirens falls upon deaf ears The bombs fall silent but for all to see With eyes wide open we watch In suspended motion we pray As their bombs fall loudly Where our silent bodies lay We hug our children + say We hug our sisters + say In plain sight they prey In plain sight they see the whites Of the eyes + the grit of our teeth And yet...they still defeat Our hearing lost to blasts of tyranny Our ears deafened from lifeline + defeat They rely on submission They depend on our lack of will They thrive upon our ignorance And salivate on our grief

Embracing the aftershock, prepared for loss Stoking the fires of destruction Basking in the blistering heat I never think of the future, it comes soon enough We never think of the future, it comes soon enough Temperatures rising, storm clouds descend On ignorant hordes, manipulation + control By unseen forces in plain view before us To their gods the tyrants pray On the weak the vultures prey We fight still through subversion Until the foundation rots away Darker days ahead, we have darker days ahead

Beyond darkness + dull despair Beneath the sacred plots + fragile thought Lay the last vestiges of hope And the loss of defeat No shadows fall at dawn But ash to blackened ground Tonight the last light flickers Tonight the last light fails Black against night Black against night

We have waited, weak + lone For your coming, mighty one Our pockets empty, our spirits cold Give us glory for blood + gold To the earth their power fades Like a dying prayer almost silent Whispering: we have been triumphed And anarchy, the skeleton Bowed + grinned to everyone To the earth their power fades Police + priests, a sick charade And to the earth their power fades

With step as soft as wind it passed Over the heads of men so fast That they felt the presence there And looked and all was empty air And the prostrate multitude looked and Ankle deep in blood, trudged along Without aim, trudging through The freshly slain Rise like lions after slumber In unvanquishable number Shake your chains to earth like dust Which in sleep enveloped us And anarchy, the ghastly birth Lay deadened earth upon deadened earth The horse of death whose hooves did grind To dust the murderers from behind A fervent chorus from beneath was Heard + felt + at its close A fervent chorus from beneath These words of hate + fear arose: Rise like lions after slumber In unvanquishable number Shake your chains to earth like dust Which in sleep enveloped us We are many, they are few We are many
