Ark
We lift our eyes and see her there, Majestic cradle in the smoke stained sky Countless wars have raged below, As this great seed took form We have sifted through the ashes of our ruined home And gathered what few dusty treasures remained We offer them now, to the Chosen Ones We give them bitterly, we give them our lives Every tiny, vain dream in every beating heart Is forfeit now, to this one, great, final hope So many of us fought so hard to stop them From taking away what precious little remained We defended the right of every human being To snarl and fight over the charred carcass of the world Now the Ark has left us with the bones Without warning, the Ark drifts away, It sets below the horizon like the moon Lights red in the smog sullied sky, Never to rise again The last hope, the only hope for mankind And of those of us who remain Some will weep, some will fight, some will pray Some will gather the ashes in bloody fingers Only to watch them blow away We stole the earth from our children

The blue planet, greying Aged beyond her years Opalescent glow in the endless black A shrinking gem A dwindling star Now I can't recall the first day I realized That I could no longer see her I loved her Dying mother We fled from your acid tears Your breath of ash We peeled the blackened skin from your back While you begged us for life We ruined her The grey planet, burning This disease has ravaged her Stained oceans of fetid brown Ash in the clouds Glass craters And poisoned dust is all that remains Where once we nested and multiplied We abandoned her Like parasites We set forth from her ruined husk Seeds of the disease Seeking a new host Invasive weeds We bring the tools of conquest And carry the seeds of our destruction

There is a star That they call the Sun It gave life to a world That I will never see They speak of sacrifice A destiny, our futures foretold They say we are within a womb And the Ark is bearing Earth's children Slaves to the mistakes of our forebears Every moment of our lives scripted In their great narrative of rebirth We are neither the beginning Nor the end We are a means to an end There is a star A new Sun they follow Life for the new world

It is a world The Ark To those who have never seen a world Those who never will And they, the dying few who stepped aboard The refugees, the world killers Seek to force their wisdom upon us Proclaiming the way to create a world When they have only turned a world to ash This is our world The Ark For those who will never see a world Those who had no choice And some will follow them, a foolish few These withering elders burdened, blinded Mired in shame, anchored to hopelessness But we will be free of their past Because this is the day when we choose

She is fractured, bleeding precious gases She is crippled, aimless, drifting A dark shadow Moving through the dark of space This silent shadow of a dying world Malignant cells she has brought with her Contamination from Earth The one kind she should have left behind The human animal She is dying The Ark And within her womb Those of us left, will die with her We were haunted, fractured, restless We are remnants, now, drifting She was a crucible Desperate times, desperate measures The last flailing shudder of a dying world Every generation, forgets the mistakes Of those who came before Ours will be the last to learn The consequences of war It is cold Dark Fragments falling away, adrift The last hope of mankind.
