Another Life
The sin of gluttony A spread laid out before us While envy permeates inside The wrath of many Overlooked by greed above us In ivory towers filled with pride The fat cats, getting fatter While no one eats the rich And people grab the scraps Within their bloody piss-filled ditch But they’re alive The deficits are growing And red is all around us It’s always sink or swim and die The cradle lid comes down A plaque is fixed upon it But ours is not to question why The gulf between is growing No lifeboats to be found And calling out for help Gives your position on the ground Finding a way To break through the mundanity And get through the day, to try Fighting for breath While cloaked in the profanity Of greed’s masquerade Of another life

Sky above is darkened A vision overhead Mothers hide their children And sacrifice themselves instead Fire from the heavens Scorches land below While in their caves the mighty hide Not reaping what they’ve sown They come around again Destruction never ends And when you think they’ve gone Enter the hellion Men and boys are gathered Weapons thrust in hand Showing solidarity They march across the land Women take their frontline Protecting village life And in the sky, a piercing cry Comes screaming through the night

You’re only living for tomorrow The best things happened yesterday Time heals all wounds I hear the wise say When will the madness slip away? We’re all looking to the future In hope we’ll see a better day Sands of time Are running out for you Better live it while you can Sands of time Ain’t gonna stop for you Light your bridges, burn the plan You are the master of your destiny The key to open every door Each tiny movement carries over Each word ingrained for evermore No point in waiting for solutions This is the way we carry on Your hopes in every grain of sand Are slowly slipping through your hands Between what was and what will be Stand up, destroy futility

Always looking for something When there’s nothing to see Never listening to rumours In case the truth is revealed Getting close to the answers While stepping away And never asking the questions When there’s nothing to say All we know The lies that we’re shown All we are Is shaped from afar In black and white Wading through the deception Holding on to belief Past the point of perception To the chasm beneath While scratching the surface You find the layers below And the space between the lines Starts to grow Always looking for something Beneath the deceit Never listen to rumours Until the truth is revealed You’ll never find the answers While looking away All the questions forgotten For another day

Feel your breath against my hair Turn around, but you’re not there And yet, I swear... You’re always there beside me. In my head, I hear you speak You call my name but the will is weak A life alone, yet you live on inside me. Silent screams that shape my dreams Persist ’til I awaken A voice that haunts, your spirit taunts A life that I’ve forsaken Unspoken lies, my conscience tries To put the past behind me Through broken dawns, I carry on And hope the truth won’t find me Familiar scent hangs in the air Passing thoughts that go nowhere And yet, I swear... Hell is where I live I am yours to give Look down, see my face lit Black heart melts inside it Destroys everything I know Pull back into darkness So close, I try to harness My thoughts into energy I never wanted to be Anything more than just me No I am no-one you see You’re fading away just like me The night is darkest Before the dawn The war inside cannot be won Until the silence tears away And light intensifies The black to grey Time is where I play You are mine today Reach out, feel my hand slip I cry out but no-one hears it Fades out into nothingness My voice cracks the silence Brings out a hate, so violent In you like I’ve never seen Here, I’ve never been Feared but never seen I’m here, right behind you Feel me looking past you Turn round, no-one takes the blame Disturbed, full of sorrow Pull up a chair, and once more We’re one, now and evermore

I hear a voice in the darkness People around But it’s heard by only me There’s power to be harnessed, To control the earth, the sky, and sea And in the silence The only sound I hear is you Forever taunting And steered vicariously to rule Bow before me Children of the sun Come together To praise your chosen one See your future Stronger under me For I’m the first one... Your destiny I see a shape in the distance Ripping the sky Yet shadows make its form A piercing persistence To take the throne, where I belong Elements of persuasion Are slowly turning heads to me Numbers building One after one Dropping to their knees

Eyes flicking all around Aware of all below A nest sits on the highest ledge Its presence never known A sudden distant movement A shifting on the ground He inches forward, taking stock A breathy whisper chased by sound Turning the tables, a paradigm shifts The hunter now hunted as prey Flouting convention Like dust in the wind The hunter considers his prayers Intuition breaking down As instinct starts to slow His chest pounds, taken to the edge Such feelings never shown Adrenaline floods the system Evoking fight or flight He shifts position, slowing breaths Silence breaks for the final time Turning the tables A paradigm shifts The hunter has fallen as prey His misapprehension Now dust in the wind The hunter the subject of prayers

The silence broken By a million cracks of thunder While darkness penetrates my eyes At once, my senses shake me From eternal slumber I know not where I am, or why Outside, a dust has risen Shadows growing endless Vague silhouettes are all I see Scrambling around I hear a voice cry in the distance And realise that voice is me Nobody hears, nobody’s seen The silence is deafening As the veil lifts between The cries of sorrow Like a chorus from the heavens Discordant howls break the reprise An empty vessel Drawing crowds that bear confusion Torn with fear And falling to their knees The screams in the night As I hide from the light The urges I feel In this life, so unreal The hands all around Clutching treasures they’ve found The warnings I trust Like my soul, turn to dust
