She said goodbye to Earth in late Ninety Seven Without fanfare or acclaim Her proud creators watched her rise to the heavens A disappearing lonely flame A voyage of six long years to where she'd been sent The distant reach of humanity Her makers knew they'd never see her again But they would see what she could see Through her cosmic eye Into the dark heart of a giant she sailed Revealing secrets never known The endless quest for life was destined to fail And we watched it all unfold Through her cosmic eye In time her nemesis was the fuel that she lacked And plans were drawn to bring the end Cassini's deadly plunge would be her last act A final farewell from a friend Through her cosmic eye
