The Duellist's Monologue
Beaten down by life On the ground again – just can’t understand Why there must be such strife Facing the unknown One thing’s certain – this heavy burden Is mine and mine alone Time and time again I wear the Iron Crown The weight of the world keeps me down I wear… The Crown I wear… The Iron Crown I wear… The Crown I wear… The Iron Crown There’s nothing left for me I’ve done all I could – did it do any good? At least nothing I can see Let my spirit rest Will I rise again – or await the end And the blessed kiss of death Time and time again I wear the Iron Crown The weight of the world keeps me down I wear… The Crown I wear… The Iron Crown I wear… The Crown I wear… The Iron Crown Now that all my energy is gone Will I ever regain the strength to carry on

Dead magician Face down in the dirt Red on green Returning to the earth A faithless mission To cut him down With logic’s blade For science’s crown Can you see further See the blood on your hands Justify the murder Believing that you understand Dead magician Now dust and memories Still he remains In the earth and the trees If you look to see You’ll never surmise The light that shines Only blinds your eyes Can you see further See the blood on your hands Justify the murder Believing that you understand

I hear what you're saying But your words make no sense I understand what you're feeling And that you're acting in self defense Nothing good will come of this The road you're on leads to nowhere Can't you see, you got to stop Even if you really don't care I hear what you're saying But your words make no sense I understand what you're feeling And you're acting in self defense You know, I know the place Where you think that you belong But listen now and try to hear I tell you time and time again that you are wrong Downward Spiral Architect Downward Spiral You're riding high On a downward spiral ride Realize, lift the scales from your eyes You're poisoning your life

Well, this delicate thing that I’ve let grow For years I nurtured it as best as I could Now it seems that the crown of my creation Will lead me to my own devastation Razor petals – The bleeding of the heart Razor petals – Suffering through art It seems so lovely, so sweet and perfect But pain and anguish hide ‘neath its surface No one can see what I’ve given to get this far Sanity and soul left torn and scarred Razor petals – The bleeding of the heart Razor petals – Suffering through art Like an alchemist in my own laboratory A trail of failures will tell my story The dream I sought has now turned into a curse Could I live without it or would that just be worse?
