Our lives have turned sad The harvest again was bad And it's growing worse hungry children cry They pray to a new god while their people die But fortune does not grow from a lie What is our hope when kings betray Sigurd was too strong but in ambush they lay His brother helped and he was paid in gold Now Sigurd lies dead bloodless and cold Treason dwells in our king He lies betrays and kills at night What fortune can it bring? Come Skald sit thee with us and tell us of the past The deeds of Viking warriors in your songs they'll ever last We long to hear of Hakon, the Earl of Norway's shores Or how he killed the Grayskin and stood the Jomsburg force He was born the son of Sigurd, his father stabbed by royal hands He escaped and turned a viking, his frame spread across the lands And on the day he faced the Grayskin, anger wished just like a burning flood Hakon the maker of widows taking lives as his blade drinks blood The fish return now into the fjord, the harvеst rich Hakon we hail thy sword Raising temples whеre a church did stand.
