Running Out of Skin
I saw a man crushed in the subway Four years back Some college kid from Queens Traded shoves on the platform With some desperate debased drunk Who dragged them to the tracks As the train came His scramble too slow by a second Surprise on his face When they wrenched his pulp From between the car and the platform I was gone by the time he died Gasping in the ambulance There must’ve been hundreds Who saw him there stricken Their voices burst forth fluid And we all drowned in the flood The sight of him sodden in unwilling eyes His life seeping down into concrete Into the records that name and contain us When our lovely shells are gone The numbers go up and up But the sum never makes sense

Dust in major urban centers Mostly consists of human skin cells It's always good to know Where your friends are

Try harder It's not good enough Work harder It's not finished yet It doesn't hurt bad enough You're not you without failure You have no name but weakness

Built from blind faith, passed down From self-induced fantasies Turn a page to justify Conjuring power, it opens wide On your seventh day Is that how it's done? Twisting your eyes to perceive all that you want To assume from ignorance Inflicting wound with a cross-turned-dagger Inside Crystal Mountain, evil takes its form Inside Crystal Mountain, commandments are reborn All the traps are set to confine All who get in the way of the divine In sight and in mind of the hypocrites A slave to the curse, forever confined Shatter the myth, don't cut yourself On your words, against dreams made of steel Stronger than any faith That inflicts pain and fear Is that how it's done? Twisting your eyes to perceive all that you want To assume from ignorance Inflicting wound with a cross-turned-dagger Inside Crystal Mountain, evil takes its form Inside Crystal Mountain, commandments are reborn
