There once was a maiden He thought her quite fair and The eyes of two emeralds and Fire in her hair Her free way of speaking Reflected her soul He wanted to own her He wanted control And so the maiden Fell prey to his spell and Her free way of speaking He surely did quell He captured and wooed her And he made her his own The spell it did falter And her heart it did roam Out of this story Their legend was born and I still sing of it Sad and forlorn I am I will tell you And tell you again Of all the evil That Merrick began
