In July 1995, in the Bosnian town of Srebrenica, some 8000 Bosnian Muslims were systematically deported and killed by units of the Army of Republika Srpska. This genocide is considered to be the largest mass murder on European soil since the end of World War II. Due to bureaucratic errors and political concerns no significant military action was taken by the UN to protect victims, leaving them at the mercy of their executioners.
