Time is on my side But just like anyone else I cannot hide I see the faces around me mature and grow Then suddenly they're gone - but where do they go? I like it now I'm old enough to understand All life's misdemeanours I used to think so strange It's a constant pain to see the old ways wane Like my friend the old playgrounds are gone So much has changed The boy becomes a man The novelty becomes second hand Bump into an old friend, you haven't seen for years Although it seems like an hour ago that you met It's worse than you feared How much has he changed, for good or bad? The eyes are the same but they hide all the secrets in childhood you shared Her name on your lips, now has a sweeter taste Memories fall back to earth in your heart But not quite into place All the bad times, the tears, and the nights of pain Fall away when you look once again in those eyes, washed with the rain.
