Remember Me as Fire

Grief aflame Seething darkness Nothing to salve No panacea for inner defeat Scourged and shamed Teeth in darkness Nothing to save The stricken beast that I am Void circle edges closer And lashes me Draw from peripheral to centerpiece Smouldering like flesh A penumbra glows, phosphorescent in decay I thought I had already fallen as far as I could go A shimmer and a misstep, then came the long below Remember me as fire Failure’s blinding gnosis Fathered into disarray Mothered into abandon Discarded, unworthy of the name Grief aflame Seething darkness Nothing to salve Not with all my might Not with all the love in the world Scourged and shamed Teeth in darkness But from beyond, such distant walls Other voices answer “To be nothing given form is to be human- Carve a path to your zenith You will meet everything you’ve seen on your descent But are you so broken that you cannot draw breath?” A shadow with a dream to grasp the warmth of sunlight No longer man, not yet a phantom That which burns between Remember me as fire
