What’s the matter with me I don’t have much to say Daylight sneakin’ through the window And I’m still in this all-night café Walkin’ to and fro beneath the moon Out to where the trucks are rollin’ slow To sit down on this bank of sand And watch the river flow Well, I wish I was back in the city Instead of this old bank of sand With the sun beating down over the chimney tops And my true love so close at hand If I had wings and I can fly I know where I would go Right now I’ll just sit here so contentedly And watch the river flow Well, people disagreeing is too bad of thing here, Makes you stop and all wonder why Only yesterday I saw someone on the street Who just couldn’t help but cry Oh, this ol’ river keeps on rollin’, though Whatever way the wind does blow I’ll just sit here and watch the river flow People disagreeing everywhere you look Makes you wanna stop and read a book Only yesterday I saw someone on the street That was really shook Well, this ol’ river keeps on rollin’, though Whatever way the wind does blow As long as it does I’ll just sit here And watch the river flow Yes, as long as it does I’ll just sit here And watch the river flow Nobody knows

Hey everybody Let's have some fun You only live but once And when you're dead you're done So let the good times roll I said let the good times roll I don't care if you're young or old Let the good times roll Don't sit there mumbling Talkin' trash If you want to have a ball You got to go out and spend some cash And let the good times roll now I'm talkin' 'bout the good times Well it makes no difference whether you're young or old Let the good times roll Oh yeah, why don't you tell everybody? Rockets back in town I got a dollar even ringin' the clock Don't let nobody play me cheap I got 50 cents more that I'm here to gonna keep Let the good times roll I let the good times roll Make no difference if you're young or old Let the good times roll No matter whether, rainy weather You want to have a ball, you got to get yourself together Whoa, let the good times roll

I've seen the bright lights of Memphis and the Commodore Hotel And, underneath a street lamp I met a Southern Belle Well, she took me to the river where she cast her spell And, in that southern moonlight she sang the song so well If you'll be my Dixie Chicken, I'll be your Tennessee Lamb And we can walk together down in Dixieland Down in Dixieland Well, we made all the hot spots - my money flowed like wine And then that lowdown southern whiskey began to fog my mind And I don't remember church bells or the money I put down On the white picket fence and boardwalk of the house at the edge of town Oh, but boy do I remember the strain of her refrain And the nights we spent together, and the way she called my name If you'll be my Dixie Chicken, I'll be your Tennessee Lamb And we can walk together down in Dixieland Down in Dixieland Well, it's been a year since she ran away - guess that guitar player sure could play She always liked to sing along - she's always handy with a song Then one night in the lobby of the Commodore Hotel I chanced to meet a bartender who said he knew her well And as he handed me a drink he began to hum a song And all the boys there at the bar began to sing along If you'll be my Dixie Chicken, I'll be your Tennessee Lamb And we can walk together down in Dixieland Down in Dixieland

Shapes of things before my eyes Just teach me to despise Will time make men more wise? Here within my lonely frame My eyes just heard my brain But will it seem the same? Come tomorrow, will I be older? Come tomorrow, may be a soldier Come tomorrow, may I be bolder than today? Now the trees are almost green But will they still be seen When time and tide have been? Fallin' into your passing hands Please don't destroy these lands Don't make them desert sands Come tomorrow, will I be older? Come tomorrow, may be a soldier Come tomorrow, may I be bolder than today?

Well, in 1814 we took a little trip Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip' We took a little bacon and we took a little beans We met the bloody British in the town of New Orleans Well, we fired our guns and the British kept a-comin' There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago We fired once more and they begin a-runnin' Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico We looked down a river and we've see the British come There must have been a hundred of 'em beatin' on the drum They stepped so high and they made their bugles ring We stood beside our cotton bales and didn't say a thing We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin' There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago We fired once more and they begin a-runnin' Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico Old Hickory said, "We could take 'em by surprise If we didn't fire our muskets 'til we looked 'em in the eyes" We held our fire 'til we see'd their faces well Then we opened up our squirrel guns and really gave 'em well We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin' There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago We fired once more and they begin a-runnin' Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico And they ran through the briers and they ran through the brambles And they ran through the bushes where the rabbit couldn't go They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico We fired our cannon 'til the barrel melted down So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round We filled his head with cannonballs and powdered his behind And when we touched the powder off, the gator lost his mind They ran through the briers and they ran through the brambles And they ran through the bushes where the rabbit couldn't go They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin' There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago We fired once more and they begin a-runnin' Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

In the white room With black curtains Near the station Black roof country No gold pavements Tired starlings Silver horses Ran down moonbeams In your dark eyes Dawn light smiles On you leaving My contentment I'll wait in this place Were the sun never shines Wait in this places Where the shadows Run from themselves You said no strings Could secure you At the station Platform ticket Restless diesels Goodbye windows I walked in To such a sad time At the station As I walked out Felt my own need Just beginning I'll wait in the queue When the trains come back Lie with you Where the shadows Run from themselves At the party She was kindness In the hard crowd Consolation For the old wound Now forgotten Yellow tigers Crouched in jungles In her dark eyes She's just dressing Goodbye windows Tired starlings I'll sleep in this place With the lonely crowd Lie in the dark Where the shadows Run from themselves
