The Hardest Thing About Being God Is That No One Believes Me
Every story has a beginning A prelude to coalescence I arrived forty minutes early You were fifteen minutes late. You apologise through milky teeth And ask me how long I’ve been waiting The delicate way you placed your order A lesson in something long forgotten; warmth. I fantasise about knocking my drink into your lap, Just to initiate a physical interaction but we sit with words. Words fall into stories and again into sonnets of love and loss Maybe we can gently transpose each other. Maybe one day you’ll measure your hand up against mine And we can make shadow puppets of ghosts who love without guilt. You ask me if I would like to Walk with you through secret gardens Shrinking arrows of golden light dance Through the leaves of an old oak tree And with that, we part, but not without the damage done. I look to the stars for reassurance and realise that this is a Futile act of unwarranted desire and The atoms that comprise my eye. I look to the stars for reassurance and realise that this is a Futile act of unwarranted desire and The atoms that comprise the Giant, nuclear kings I've called upon Don't wield the faculties of empathy.

My fingers draw cartographs Pioneering new lands As they gently coil and twist Through your chestnut hair As they gently coil and twist Cafuné Creating temporary silken landmarks from which to admire you from. Each passing second, a fleeting moment Of vulnerable exploration Your strawberried lips part as breath gives way to sound. Musical proclamations of love etch into my skin Like fountain pens on cartridge paper Being careful to not waste any ink Elegant cursive ribbons tether our hearts in calligraphic fortuity.

The first colour was vermillion, War paint framing her venomous mouth. Smeared like childish paintings of broken families. Casting spells of claret anguish. Rosen spit lands like acid rain upon innocence. Cherry blossom cheeks turn to ash As malnourishment sours the oxytocin. And this is where it all began.

In the beginning I created light So that you may be perforated by a billion reflections Of my unprecedented desire. I worship every particle of air you have breathed Knowing that it sustained your existence. Your bedroom, a scintillating shrine to your body. Silken sheets and jasmine cradle your sleep. Bruised perfume and fingernails intoxicating me. My hand, a desperate actress Slides feverishly into my underwear I stand here in the dark Dissociating, you bring me to climax The hardest thing about being god is that no one believes me.

Countless galaxies have unfolded And died for this moment to take place Countless galaxies have unfolded Your silken neck, confection Casting spells on widowed vampires Between your legs, an astral playground In which all thirst is quenched I bathe in your majesty Your eyes are black holes Absorbing everything around us As this blade dances with your veins I dream of your convulsing body painting snow angels in the dirt.

Black orchids wilt as though the curse of death Emanates from the depths of my heart Saline bullets sting my corrupted eyes As my gesture is tossed into the burn pits of this emotional holocaust. Can you not see me? We are shards of broken mirrors that reflect the dislocated efforts we pour into truth. But rearranged, we may become a viable kaleidoscope, From which potent mandalas could colour our journey We must utilise what remains of this organ you have cut from me, For I am nothing without purpose I can see you in the distance Having left me to dwell in this swamp of nightmares I am spooked by the plague that has befallen us Hatred will claim us if our mouths are ulcerated From the venomous incantations of misunderstanding Ludicrous is the mind of empty promises I’m not ready to go, do not fucking bore me.

I breathe you in, the lingering scent of jasmine and regret. Each inhale a step deeper into the abyss of obsession. A wraith entwined with the fabric of my unravelling psyche. Words fail, trapped in the choking grip of my unspoken anguish. Silently screaming, your laughter, a jagged razor, slices through the veil of my composure Leaving only echoes of a love that never was. Your image, resembling psychedelic hallucinations haunt the shadows of my sleep. In the dark, I am both predator and prey, Hunted by the phantoms of my own creation, a prisoner of your denial. Remembering the maps I thought I drew for you, I now see only traced lines of my madness, Littered with sunken ships that never left the harbour to be with you. Each one, a totem of what is and what could have been. You are the architect of my ruin, the muse of my despair, And I, a willing captive, fall deeper into the eclipse of reason.

I have come for you My affection, now an elusive spectre An ephemeral illusion beyond reach You have left me no recourse but to Surrender to my madness! I have come for you Your beautiful body beckons Draped in satin lingerie Hovering over you, my vision is veiled By the sweaty wool of my balaclava I stifle your muffled cries with one hand While preparing the syringe with the other 600 milligrams of dissonant oblivion enter your neck And in moments, your form melts into the tender embrace of your pillow And at last, we are united, destined to depart this realm as one I have come for you

You awaken to fumes of petrol, sickly sweet. Moonlit dark strobing shadows refract through the glass As the van drives past leering black trees Lifeless and thrashed, your husband is a yellowing phantom His cataclysmic failure to protect you, an embarrassment Rope burns pepper his forsaken neck. Your divinity passes by chance and hope is broken Dread weighs its colossal chains against your heart and you scream You scream for your God I maniacally scream back We are one and the same Your skin quivers with my touch, pure repulsion Dragged from the vehicle, you beg for mercy You tell me you love me through the teeth Of parents who lie to dying kids Our love chokes on treason And you are guilty as charged Our deaths will mourn this world (this cold world) Our femininity will unfurl and flower Under the nuclear kings we’ve rejected They will bear witness to that which man cannot muster. Matriarchal coalescence. Empty is the promise of safety. You are blindfolded and led to the woods.
