The Duel
Among shadows that are breathing Where God and society casts a blind eye And no historian will ever write a page to remember about Their stories are hidden deep into the earth Where disease is king and the flesh is rotting Hate and contempt are the keepers of the gates And judgement is the privilege of Kings I belong among the flies and carcasses Give me your fetid wisdom From its hollow wings sprouts the magnificence of grace Sing with defiance, sing with pride For the coming of the Sun And the breaking of the silence Sing for the greatness of your soul The unbroken will that triumphs over all The breathing shadows beckon me...

In shores of distant lands, under the scorching sun The blood of men there is mixed with the sea The tide returns to carry bodies by the thousands Of those who chose to hold on to the doomed But not yet lost cause of freedom and decency The crows descend by the hundreds From a blackened keep in the mountains Their eyes reflect a pallid shape beneath Emanating decay and great power, soaked in hubris The vanquisher stands victorious His conquered land stands in charred ground, ruin and rot A small price to pay to strangle the light of resistance His mind already far away, to the winds that will carry The last wails and curses of the slayed By great magic he manipulates the minds of men The meaning their worlds and the ink of their manuscripts There is in fact a greater evil than genocide And that is to take the evil away from the sword that enacted it A warrior is hiding among the ruins, the last of their kind For days she stood motionless, breathless among the carnage For one moment, to face eye to eye the slayer of her people She leaps into the sky and lands next to him Even now, the faces of the bystanders are in shock They tell her to put down the weapon, that violence is not the solution They tell her about morality, of the complexity of it all That justice will be eventually reached Next to the countless bodies of her comrades Whose blood has not yet run dry He draws a mighty sword which calls thunder from sky. She draws her knife.
