The Invocation of the Deathless One
Yig, lord of the Old Ones Most ancient and wise in wisdom Known as APEP to the dwellers of the Nile For his true shape is the one of a snake He has no beginning He has no end For his body is unending And deathless His children are the snakes Wherever a serpent crawls, there watches Yig For all holding the essence of him Who is great in their multitude He has no beginning He has no end For his body is unending And deathless The cosmic serpent that encircles the world In his secret temples of the west His worshippers summon him to their rites: Possess my body with your spirit! My limbs are anointed in blood My eyes are rolled back into my head I am lying upon the sand Enter this fleshen vessel! Insert your teaching into my mind! I’m undulating upon my belly Hissing my lips but cease to speak As an imitation of the snake Yë, y’ti fl’anglh ugg’a thu’lh! Yig aeth fl’anglh uuthah! Approach deathless one! Heed the summons of the flute!
